Class Year: 2026-2027 Time: Wed 12:00 pm - 01:30 pm; Teacher:Luisa Hernandez Tuition: $560 / Year or $80 / Month for 7 Months (September - March; class ends in May) Supply Fee: $40 / Year - Due Upon Registration (Non-Refundable after July 31) Location: Northwest (Cypress)
The goal of this class is for your student to increase in proficiency in the target language (Spanish) at the completion of this course. As your student’s Spanish teacher, I will be incorporating a Proficiency Oriented Language Instructional Immersion model to meet this goal.
My vision for your student is for them to become a proficient learner who is able to communicate about a topic appropriately and accurately. The course objective for your student is to participate daily and weekly in oral and written activities using various implemented strategies to help them communicate about a topic appropriately and accurately.
The instructional rubric used to measure the objectives (oral and written activities, quizzes, tests, etc.) is categorized into four elements:
LISTENING: listening to the teacher tell a story, listening to questions asked by the teacher, listening to the teacher describe a film
READING: choral reading with the class, reading stories that have been told/asked in class, embedded reading, reading storyboards
WRITING: filling in missing words in CLOZE passages, free writes, completing personalized sentence frames
SPEAKING: responding to simple questions from the teacher (yes/no, either/or, etc.), re-telling class stories, reacting with rejoinders
In the Middle School Class, the focus will be on the Super 7 Verbs in Present and Past tense list. It is a concept of teaching and recycling the highest frequency verbs in Spanish (also applies to other languages):
1 estar(is location/condition)
2 hay(there is / there are)
3 tener(has)
4 ser(is-origin/character)
5 gustar(likes / pleasing to)
6 ir(goes / is going)
7 querer(wants)
Rest assured that FUN is integrated in each lesson by way of puzzles, games, challenges, singing and so much more!
To support and increase Spanish acquisition during the week, homework will be assigned so that ideally the student is using one or two elements of the 4 elements daily including the integration of The Super 7. Some assignments require the use of online sites such as: Señor Wooly, Quizlet, Quizizz and some specific videos on YouTube. Memory work is also included using short lists.
