In the High School Art program, students will explore creativity, self-expression, art processes and mediums. This course is designed to be rigorous, engaging, relevant, and will challenge students to think critically and creatively. Students will engage in creative problem-solving and critical thinking.

Heavy emphasis will be placed on the artistic processes and techniques through various mediums at a higher level. This course is meant to be more interactive with dialogue and discussions about others’ art but also their own art process and artworks.

The curriculum aims to achieve the following objectives:

1. Hands-On Creation: Through hands-on activities, students will experiment with different art materials, such as paints, charcoal, clay, as well as other 3-D materials. They’ll create their own artworks, developing skills in drawing, painting, mixed media, and other techniques. Process as well as completion will be emphasized. Attention to detail and fine motor skills will be strengthened and expanded upon throughout the duration of this course. In the creation of art, individual expression will be given a greater emphasis due to their age level, abilities, and critical thinking skills.

2. Christian Values: The curriculum will emphasize Christian values, encouraging students to express their faith and reflect on Biblical themes through their art.3. Appreciation of God’s Creation: Students will explore the beauty of God’s creation and learn to see the world through an artistic lens.

4. Critical Thinking and Creativity: Students will engage in creative problem-solving, learn to think outside the box, and express their ideas visually.

5. Art Appreciation: Students will learn to appreciate various forms of art, including paintings, sculptures, and other types of art. They’ll briefly explore different artistic styles and techniques.

6. Art History: Students will continue to build upon what they learned in Junior High Art about famous artists, art movements, and historical contexts. Students will learn the cultural significance of art throughout history from a Biblical worldview.

7. Discovery, Exploration, Observation, Thinking, Creating, Rigor, Fun!: These are not just words. It is my aim to guide students to discover, explore, think deeply, observe, create, and to work hard. It is my hope that these God-given abilities would be strengthened in a loving, caring, structured, fun, and supportive environment where students are not afraid to take risks and ask questions.
